And now it is Mr. Fun’s turn. (Oddly, that was NOT his nickname in Tijuana. He was HGL which stood for Happy Go Lucky!)
Wow! What an phenomenal trip! I went down thinking it was a chance to have some fun and share an experience with Jill and Ellie. That happened for sure but totally exceeded my expectations. What I did not expect was to have such an amazing group of youth and co-leaders. Our team chemistry was great from the beginning, a team playlist, singing in the car everyday, and spontaneous dance parties. One of our team goals was to have fun. Check!
Then there was the family, ours was so gracious and in dire need. Seven people covering 3 generations will be in this house. Juan (grandpa) worked with us on cement day and we really needed him.
Now, don’t get me wrong, this was a hard week of work and a challenging process to follow various directions. We began with 85 degrees on cement day and finished needing power tools on the final day to actually finish (all sawing and trim work is supposed to be by hand). We had lots of answered prayers during the week including the needed support crew help, hard working kids with zero complaints and amazing youth leadership to help the first time adult leaders. We finished with smiles and tears as we gave the family keys to their new home. SPC finished 7 houses during our week in Tijuana.
Overall, this was such a rewarding experience filled with fun, worship, and memories that exceeded any expectations I had that I know I will be back again.
