We had Ellie’s birthday party last night and it was the bees knees! This girl loves all things vintage (wait until you see her birthday outfit later this week) so this was an easy party to plan. The hardest part was finding a night when all her friends could make it so that is why we had it so early!
Black and white and red were our main colors but teal gave jus the right pop of color to make it all zippy. Setting the table was really fun. I used wrapping paper as a runner down the table and had matching napkins for the middle of the plates. Speaking of the plates I had them sitting on ‘chargers’ that were really records that I bought at the local thrift store. While I was there I also bought some 45’s to hang from the lights above the table. I bought some cute Coca Cola glasses and parfait bowls at the dollar store to round out the place settings.
As for the treats I got some fun red striped cupcake holders (on Amazon) and baked chocolate cupcakes in them. To match the table I mixed up some teal frosting and topped them all with gummy cherries. Everybody needs a cherry on top!
I had a great time pulling together the treats on the counter too. I found a lot of great things at Cost Plus to fit our theme. I filled a cardboard 50’s convertible (I found that online) with pink gummy cadillacs and found some great pop choices in bright colors and flavors. (Just in case you are wondering, Blue Pop tastes like cough medicine.) I rounded it out with popcorn and licorice for the movie they watched later.
After dinner the girls went off with Allen and Kate for their annual scavenger hunt. Since Ellie is 16 this year this hunt was a driving one. (Although Allen did the driving because none of the girls can drive with friends yet.) They went all over town searching for clues. There was an audio clue that used a song (Rockin Robin) from the playlist we made just for the party. That clue sent them to Red Robin for a clue. They even found a clue at XXX (this is a local drive in burger joint) that actually belonged to a different scavenger hunt and had to go back for the real clue!
The last clue led them back home to find some fun vintage glasses behind a set of my vintage cameras. Fun!
After blowing out her candles and making ice cream sundaes we left the girls on their own to watch Teen Beach Movie. (Funny how these girls still like silly Disney movies!)
A big thanks to all the girls for helping us celebrate Ellie and make her feels special!
