Five or six weeks ago I saw a neat little story, more of a blurb actually, about new game. A game that encourages good deeds. As soon as I saw this I, ahem…the Easter Bunny thought this would make the perfect gift for Easter. The purchase of these bracelets helps support the women in African countries who make them so that is the first good deed.
Here’s how it works. There are only two rules. You have to go out of your way to do the deed and it has to be anonymous. We are actually being a bit lenient on the second rule because if you can go out of your way to help somebody up the stairs or helping a teacher clean up their room then I’m all for that. Every time a good deed is done the little rubber ring is moved past a bead. There are 100 bead,s so by the time they are done these girls will be in the good habit of looking for ways to help.
So far it has been really fun seeing what the girls are coming up with. There was a lot of garbage being picked up because that was nice and anonymous but now they are doing other things like helping their teachers or wishing strangers a good day. (This would not count for Jill because she does it anyway, but it’s a big deal for Ellie who DOES NOT talk to strangers.) Are are working on some bigger project that we might be able to do together.
Last week, after the girls had already received their bracelets, the Today Show did a much bigger story explaining how the game is sweeping the nation. Ok, maybe that’s a bit dramatic but it’s good to know the Easter Bunny was hip enough to be on top of this trend! Plus, shouldn’t doing good deeds ALWAYS be trendy?
