Today I have a teenager. When did she get so old? (Today.) When did I get so old? (When WASN’T I old?!?)
The picture below perfectly captures the stage Jill is in right now. Caught part way between the kid world (I guess you could call a love of Harry Potter kid like) and the adult world (we will let the cross signify that). Jill still enjoys playing with all the younger neighbors when they are playing Harry Potter type games or Wii or jumping in the trampoline. But she also enjoys chatting with her friends, reading a good book and keeping ahead in academics. This kid has just been invited to join the Junior National Honor Society because she has gotten all A’s since she’s been in middle school. Way to go!
So far I feel like we have been quite lucky in the teenager department, although I can already see where she is starting to rebel against some of my proclivities. A typical example is our recent shoe shopping trip. I started pulling out the fun royal blue shoes or the cute silver shoes with roses on the toes thinking they would be so cute on her. I would have loved either one, but they were WAY too flashy for my kid. She tried on every neutral shoe in her size. We’ve also noticed some serious eye rolling when it comes to some of the crazy things her sisters do or say. Ahh, the ways of a teenager. I’m sure those eye rolls will be directed at Mr. Fun and me too but so far we aren’t there!
We are so proud of this girlie and look forward to seeing what this new chapter of her life brings.
This weekend we are having a surprise birthday party we are having for Jill on Saturday. She knows we are having a party, and who is coming, but she doesn’t know what we are doing. Fun! Stay tuned for those pictures next week.
