What a weird year for school. We are all over the place but finally all three girls have officially started school…whatever THAT looks like!
Ellie started first back in August. Two of her six classes still have some sort of in person instruction but we don’t know how long that will last because COVID numbers are rising on campus. I have been impressed with Boise State and their commitment to keeping everybody safe. When Ellie shows up to class she has to wear a mask, wash her hands, grab a clorox wipe to clean her desk area and then she logs into her Boise State account and notes what classroom, time and desk she is sitting in for contact tracing. She is living off campus with three other roommates who seem to have the same level of safety that she does so that brings some comfort to her (an me!). She went through a successful rush with her sorority completely over Zoom. They rocked it because they were smart enough to practice with other AOii chapters across the country and she’s really excited about the new pledge class. (This is despite the fact their rush chairman came down with COVID and ended up in the ER part way through rush!)
Kate started her one high school class, sports medicine, just before labor day. At the same time she also started a new job working for a family on our street. Four days a week she goes over there in the afternoons to help the elementary aged kids get online for their school and helps the middle and high schooler if they need help with their classes too. She loves hanging out with those kids! On Monday she also started a full load of classes Bellevue College. Her plan is to do Running Start full time her junior and senior year so in 2022 she will graduate from high school AND have her AA degree. Amazing! It’s going to be a lot to balance but this kid can do it!
Jill is the caboose on the school train. Technically Western starts today but all of Jill’s classes are online and she really only has to ‘attend’ (via Zoom) on Thursday and Fridays. Mon-Wed she is continuing to work at her job at a Naturopath’s office. She started that job in July and has really enjoyed it! Unfortunately that means we’ve only seen her once since then because she needs to stay safe for her co-workers and also doesn’t want to expose US to anything. Sigh…COVID sucks! Since she is a senior, this is Jill’s LAST first day of school picture. (So weird to say that!)
This year is certainly different than any others, but we still have plenty to look forward to and my girls are going to make it work no matter what!
