I know it is October already but I have some catching up I still need to do. August was crazy busy for work and kids and then school started and so did student portraits. This is the first time I’ve had a chance to sit back and take stock. (That picture above is from one of our upper decks. We get to see some amazing sunsets.)
We had a great summer but not all of it made it on my blog and I want to make sure I capture these memories in my big end of year book. So here we go! Keep in mind that all of these pictures are from my iPhone so they may be a little rough. It may not be perfect, but it’s a memory!
Judith and I had grand plans to go to Jetty Island five times this summer. We even put all these dates on our calendar. Between mother nature (it’s no fun there in the rain) and busy kids we only made it once. The good news is that we found a new place that is easier to get to and doesn’t have to be an all day excursion.
The Issaquah Creek was a hidden little spot just 15 minutes from home. It was a private little spot that hardly anybody went to and Cooper even got to join us for the fun. The creek doesn’t look like much in pictures but there were some spots that hardly got your feet wet and some spots that were almost deeper than Jill’s shoulders. The girls were even able to sit in inner tubes and go down some small ‘rapids’. AND there was some lovely shady spots for Judith and I to hand out while the kids had their fun. This place is a keeper!
Speaking of swimming, we also had a great time swimming off the end of my parents’ dock. Since they are selling their house this is the last summer we can do that so we took advantage. And after a quick swim it was often necessary to stop for a quick Blizzard on the way home. Love summer traditions!
Since it is summer there has to be one more water picture. Jill and Ellie were a bit too old to bother with hoses and sprinklers but Kate has one of her best buddies living next door and Ava was always willing to get wet!
In addition to the four mini vacations we took this summer, we also had fun seeing the local sights. One day we set out with Allen’s Mom, sister and cousin to see Chihuly Garden and Glass. This picture is one of mine but I had just as much fun seeing the amazing glass sculptures as I did watching my kids photographing it. Love watching their creativity bloom! (Ellie and Kate are just enjoying the view below but Jill is actually taking a picture if you look closely.)
We also set out for a family day downtown to experience the Seattle Wheel. This attraction opened last year but we are slow on the draw. It was an awesome view, but again, I enjoyed watching the girls capture their world.
Towards the end of summer we hosted a birthday party for Mom and Dad. Since Dad had started chemotherapy in early August to kick his cancer into remission we turned it into a bit of a shaving party. That is one big noggin!
I also had fun making Mom her birthday present. She asked for a ‘Canada’ pillow while we were in Whistler but I didn’t find anything I liked so I got my creative on and made one. This is the airport code for Montreal, their hometown.
Finally, Allen and I spent the last weekend of the summer cheering on our beloved Huskies and checking out their new digs. They completely remodeled the stadium and it is awesome!
Wow! We did a lot this summer and now it is documented for all time. On to the fall!
