If you are a regular reader you know about my love affair with Apple products. But there is one thing I don’t like. All the charging cords. They are so messy and take up so much room on the counter. I especially hate to see Allen’s, gasp, Android cord. How could I let that thing into my Apple world?
Well I’ve decided to hide them all. I’ve been looking for a charging station for a long time. There are the classic wood ones from Potter Barn and the funny fake grass ones from Amazon, but they just weren’t what I was looking for. I wanted something to hide the cords and hide the devices too. (That way I can pretend Allen isn’t playing for the other team with that Android hunk of junk.)
I knew what I wanted to do but it wasn’t until I made an off hand comment to my Mother In Law, Wanda, that my dream took shape. What I wanted to do was retrofit a cool looking bread box to hold and charge devices. I chose a bread box because it was easy to open, could fit a lot of items in it, and is commonly found on the kitchen counter. Wanda had just the thing hiding in her storage room. All I needed to do was cut a hole in the back for the power strip plug, spray paint it and add a new handle. (I even added some felt on the bottom so my Apple products would have a nice cushy spot to rest.)
I love the domino I glued on for the handle (every project needs a touch of whimsy) and I love the red paint in my kitchen. And best of all I love that it hides all the cords and devices. Especially that flippin’ Android!
Please know that I am not a product photographer but I wanted to show the inside. Especially the fact that it can fit two ipads, multiple phones/ipods and a headset.
Edited to add: I just saw in Target today that they have red and teal breadboxes that look very similar. Now you can make your own too even if you don’t have a handy dandy Mother In Law like Wanda!
