Last Wednesday Jill finally got her night out. She, by far, needed the most stuff so I knew we were in for quite a night.
We started out at HER favorite place to eat, Azteca (A Bit of Mexico in Your Backyard). How’s that for a bit of mood lighting? You gotta like the dappled light that faux ferns offer with sunlight through a skylight! Without that skylight we were truly in a cave.
Here is what Jill is looking forward to next year. Do you like the mariachi music? I think it lends a certain authenticity to her quote!
This is the point where we entered the space/time vortex (no I didn’t have any margaritas with dinner) and we seemed to travel back in time about 30 years. Our first shopping stop was the Gap. Jill needed a lot of everything and they were having a great buy one/get one free promotion. Free is a four letter word I adore! One of the first shirts we found had a smurf on it. A smurf?!? I didn’t even know she knew what a Smurf was but Jill LOVED it.
Our next stop was The Children’s Place. We had already purchased the basic pieces Jill needed, but we were still on the lookout for one more special outfit. As we walked in the store I saw an outfit on a mannequin that caught my attention. I proclaimed ‘I could TOTALLY see Jan Brady wearing that outfit.’ I thought that comment would actually be a deterrent but it had the opposite affect. This was a very Brady summer (we saw every episode in four of the seasons) and Jill thought it would be so cool to look like Jan. I have to admit that it is a cute outfit on her and I’m just thrilled that she is wearing REAL pants. (Jill hasn’t worn anything but yoga pants and sweat pants for years. That’s a whole DIFFERENT story!)
When I asked Jill to strike a pose for me this is what she did. The Bee Gee’s weren’t even playing on the stereo!
Our last stop in the late 70’s time warp was the Lego store to get Jill’s treat. In addition to the Brady summer, Lego’s have been king in our house too. (See tomorrow’s blog post for more details.) Jill thought a Lego keychain would be a neat reminder of all the fun they had this summer. She had to look at and touch the millions of keychains but she finally decided on her favorite. Yep, it was R2D2.
Smurfs, The Brady Bunch and Star Wars. Sure we were school shopping for Jill, but it felt like we were back school shopping for ME!
PS – To top it all off this song was playing. I remember getting that 45 for Christmas in 1982. I had to explain what a ’45’ was to Jill. Man, I’m getting old…
