This October was super busy. So busy, in fact, that I was getting rather stressed about costumes and how they were going to happen. The first thing I did was tell the girls that they had a $30 AND anything they didn’t spend would go into their bank accounts. I figured that would stop the whining and start the creating. It worked like a dream too.
Kate was originally looking at a shirt and a bigger hat and a spear, but after looking at the prices she picked a different (and better) shirt and went with a Yankees cap. Just in case you can’t tell she is Annabeth from the Percy Jackson book series. She got a great costume and earned herself $6.
Ellie very much wanted to be Artemis (also from the Percy Jackson book series) and she needed a cool bow and arrow. Unfortunately it cost $27 leaving no real money for anything extra. So she got those creative juices flowing. She found a white sheet in my photo studio for her toga and raided my felt stash to make an awesome leaf headband. Well done! She earned the extra $3.
Jill may actually have been the biggest winner of all. She decided she was really too old to trick or treat and she’d rather hand out the candy instead of collect it. Awesome! An extra $30 for her!
Probably the best part of all, though, is Mr. Fun’s involvement. Usually he tends to nod appreciatively as we discuss and plan the costumes and then makes all sorts of Oohing and Aahing noises when Halloween arrives. This year I wanted to play that role. I had too much going on in October and was stressed out about making it all happen. When Mr. Fun asked what he could do to help I told him I wanted to do the Oohing and Aahing. I wanted to show up on the big night and act surprised. Well he totally came through for me (although I did have to leave the house the day all the items were ordered because the default question answer-er is me and old habits die hard) and they looked great!
Here are my favorites. Here is Artemis:
Here is Annabeth:
And here is Jill. Doesn’t she make a cute teenager?
