This little guy was due to join the family on Sunday July 12th. On Monday the 13th Joelle joked ‘Of course he’s late. He’s one of us!’ She certainly handled Henry’s procrastination a lot better than I did. I kept checking my phone and caller ID every 5 minutes!
I don’t know why it came as a complete surprise when Stephen called me at 4:15 AM on Tuesday morning but I was completely unprepared as I shuffled around for clothes and shoes and my camera in the dark.
By the time I saw Joelle she was happily drugged and Henry’s contractions were chugging away. In fact, by the time her doctor got to the hospital (a couple of hourse later) his head was almost out without any pushing at all from Joelle. When she finally got the go ahead to push it only took one for Henry to make his appearance. All 9 pounds, 4 ounces of him.
Last week was so crazy, ending in a wedding in Toronto, that I never got to see Mr. Henry again. On Thursday I am going to try to get squishy newborn pictures and get a few snuggles in for myself!
I’m sure glad my sister keeps having babies. I NEED my fix and I’m not ready to be a grandmother!
Joelle – You can thank me now for not posting a picture of you. I think you looked absolutely beautiful and peaceful gazing at your new little man, but I know how much I enjoyed having MY picture just after giving birth (NOT) and I restrained myself. Love ya!
