Seriously. This shirt was the last thing we found on Kate’s night out but I knew I wasn’t leaving the store without. I could probably write it off, don’t you think?!?
Kate must have been heavily influenced by her sisters this year. Unlike her sisters, this is the kid that only goes shopping to get the treat at the end. And when I’ve let her get the treat first she asks, over and over, ‘When are we going home?’ She really has no patience for shopping. But this year was different because she actually ENJOYED the process. She WANTED to try things on, loved everything she saw and was eager to move to the next store. (Not that she needed much. Just a dress and a pair of jeans because of all those hand me downs!)
Not only that, but she chose erasable pens as her treat. What is with the office supply products this year? So strange! Of course the one nod to her old ways is that she also got a pack of gum. I knew my little gum obsessed monkey was still in there!
What was Kate most looking forward to this year? ‘Seeing who my teacher is and who is in my class.’ What was she most worried about? ‘I’m worried that somebody in my class will hate me.’ When I asked when that had happened she said it really never had but she still worried about it.
One of the best parts of the evening for me was when we were driving home. Kate said ‘Did you know that there are some people that don’t have enough money to get enough clothes so they have to do lots of laundry? And they don’t get to buy treats when they shop for school clothes? Boy am I glad that we have enough time and money to do fun things like this’ I’m not sure where this came from or why she was sharing it at that moment but I sure am glad to hear that my kids realize how lucky we are and that they place time before money when it comes to having fun. Kate ended with ‘And how good would life be without fun?’
I think I’ll end with that too.
