Last weekend I decided that my studio was all wrong. It was cramped, backwards, and the collage of pictures on my wall were REALLY old. In fact, most of the pictures had been taken back in my film days. Time for an update!
So, on Wednesday, I got my booty in gear and flipped everything around. I took all the pictures off the wall, took down my two backdrops and changed up my furniture.
In this whole process I made my husband very proud because I spackled all of my previous holes. (No small task since I’d had that collage on two different walls and my backdrops had been hung at multiple heights.) Me. Spackle! Another proud moment was my actually searching out studs to screw in my backdrop holders. And when I didn’t find them I used Molly Bolts. I think you may not grasp the significance of this developement. I am not a detail oreinted person. I may start a lot of projects (a lot if you ask Allen) but I always finish them the quickest way possible because I like immediate feedback. I just want it to be done! I actually took my time on Wednesday to make sure those backdrops stay on the wall (and not on a client’s head)!
While I was taking a spackle break I searched Craigs List for a small cupboard and chair. I found them both from the same lady (and got a really neat milking bench that I’m sure you will start seeing on my blog too) AND she delivered them. That night. So cool! (BTW – I did put a lot of thought into the cabinet I was buying. I new that it would be sitting directly behind me while I was taking pictures, so while I LOVE brightly painted furniture, I went wtih cream so I wouldn’t have any crazy colors reflecting onto the kiddos I was shooting!)
THEN, the new canvases I ordered over the weekend came a day early so I hung them up on Thursday. Within 24 hours I had completely flipped my studio, made space by getting rid of the strobes I don’t use any longer, bought new furniture and hung up 7 new canvases.
Like I said. I love it when a plan comes together!
