Last year we threw some pretty big parties for the girls. (You can read about them here and here.) So with that in mind we decided to go smaller this year. Have a few sleep over parties to celebrate the milestone but not go crazy. And that is just what we did but to make it special we need to set the table in a fun way, right? And we need to make a special dessert, right? And don’t forget the scavenger hunt. It’s not an Enebo birthday without a scavenger hunt!
So to do all this I needed a theme. Jill’s been having fun taking more pictures and working on them on her own computer so I thought cameras might be just the right theme. (The only downfall for this theme is I couldn’t come up with a movie for teens that fit with it. In fact, the only one I could think of was One Hour Photo with Robin Williams. Essentially a horror film so not very appropriate!)
Here are a few shots from the party. (Ironically, I didn’t use MY camera very much!)
The table:
The girls admiring my cupcakes (brownies really) furthering the theme by taking pictures of them.
Making charms for their cameras. (Okay, that is stretching it a bit since they are cell phone charms. That is the camera they usually use though!)
Movie snacks…
The scavenger hunt. Usually we do a treasure hunt (clues that lead to a treasure at the end) but this year Allen sent them on a photo scavenger hunt. Turned out to be harder than we thought since it was super foggy and 29 degrees but the girls persevered and spent more than an hour taking photos. Here are the hunters…
And here are some shots they got. Some of the things they had to photograph: something frozen, a FOR SALE sign, 10 cars parked together, a ‘bug’, a spider web, street sign etc. I had the girls work on their pictures with Instagram so there was some consistency between them and then they texted me their favorites. It was fun to do a slideshow on the TV and hear their reactions to seeing their pictures up on a big screen. They were very clever. They did such a great job!
Thanks for helping us celebrate girls!
