Last weekend Dean and Wanda celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They wanted to have a little party to celebrate but their friends had other ideas. It had been way too long since anybody had thrown a good party and Dean and Wanda were the perfect excuse. So 100 of their closest friends converged on their yard to make them feel loved and cherished and help them celebrate.
Everything at this party was home made by the guests and it all pulled together so nicely. They have an incredible group of friends that rallied with all of the food (including that beautiful cake Dawn!). Not only that, they had three folks volunteer to be the kitchen staff to keep the food table full and the punch flowing.
The girls and I were in charge of decorations and photos. Of course we had to go with a red and white theme because red is Wanda’s favorite color. EVERYBODY knows that! Not only does she have a huge variety of red and white serving dishes, but you should have seen her secret stash of vintage table cloths. Perfect! Not only THAT, but we started planning this in early June so we could take advantage of all the 4th of July decorations (just the red and white parts thank you very much) that were just hitting the stores.
Not only THAT, but Wanda always has amazing flower pots on her decks filled with flowers perfect for cutting and decorating the shady side yard.
Not only THAT, but the girls and I had experience making poufs (last summer) to hang in the tree and bunting to be strung across the yard.
Not only THAT, but Wanda still had her wedding dress (which she pulled from the dress up box!) so we hung that up for decoration. On a funny side note, if you know me then you know I am not a saver. I consigned my wedding dress right after my wedding because, in my eyes, I wasn’t going to need to get married again. Mr. Fun is it. He’s stuck with me! Ellie was so excited that we could use the dress in our decorations that she told me ‘Don’t worry Mom, we will just rent a dress to decorate for YOUR 50th wedding anniversary!
Not only THAT but Dean and Wanda didn’t mind us taking theirr pictures outside to string up a family tree (literally) and display for guests to see.
Here are some of the fabulous friends who came to celebrate…
Finally I have to share just one more. One of Dean and Wanda’s friends brought the funniest gift. Since 50 is the Golden Anniversary (clearly I ignored this missive) they sent along a bag full of gold. Golden delicious apples, Rold Gold pretzels, Golden Grahams cereal, Gold Medal flour, Goldfish cracker, etc. So clever!
