A couple of weeks ago Henry turned five. I can’t believe it! He’s the baby of the crew, he is not supposed to be that old.
I was honored to be invited to his awesome Octonauts party. Don’t know what that is? You can check out the website here. The Octonauts is a cartoon that the boys have watched for years. So cute. Joelle always does an amazing job pulling together all sorts of creative ideas. I have to admit that I did not understand the significance of all of the cute touches but I am going to share them because maybe YOU will understand her brilliance!
When the kids first arrived they chose a hat and decorated an Octocompas. (Apparently this is used to call for help when the characters are away from the pods.) Then Joelle told them all a story about how they needed to prove that they could be could Octonauts by helping four different sea creatures. The first one was a crocodile who was injured and needed to be bandaged. The kids took turns wrapping crepe paper bandages all around him. (This turned out to be Henry’s favorite and he came back and did it three more times!)
Next the call went out to help some poor fishies that were lost in the kelp forest. Each child needed to swim in and find a fish to bring back out.
The next time they heard the alarm the kids all needed to climb to the top of the play house where they found jelly boosters. (Silly string) These needed to be squirted at the jelly fish that was in distress. This looked like so much fun that I wanted to join in too!
The last call was for a shark in the front yard. He was in shallow water with no food so the Octonauts in training needed to try to throw fish nuggets into his mouth.
The kids all did such a great job with all of their tasks that they were given a map that led them to their final treasure. They all took turns breaking open the treasure chest and inside they found gold coins and swedish fish. Yum!
The party ended with the traditional cake and presents. More than half of the party goers were girls this year and Joelle kept remarking on how quiet and orderly the party was. The kids all had a great time but it wasn’t a crazy free for all which made it great for everybody!
Thanks for inviting me to your party Henry. And congratulations on becoming an Octonaut!
