Kate has been waiting for YEARS for music in 4th grade. This is the year that their under appreciated music teacher, Ms. Badgley, teaches 190 (ish) squirrelly 4th graders how to play the recorder. Each 4th grader had to earn a belt (a ribbon tied at the end of the recorder) for nine different songs (like Hot Cross Buns and Old McDonald and Ode to Joy).
The kids have been working hard at home (just wait for their parent’s to take out their earplugs before you ask them) but clearly some instruction has to happen at school too AND all of these kids have to be tested. One by one. Assuming each child only has to play a song once to pass (it is often more than once) that is 1710 different songs Ms. Badgley has to listen to. Seriously, this woman is a saint!
Not only that but there were a lot of kids, like Kate, who learned all nine songs very quickly and they hungered for more. Because Ms. Badgley is a saint, and possibly certifiable, she gave the overachievers four MORE songs to learn. Wow!
I was so impressed with Kate’s enthusiasm and drive to learn all those songs. A big thanks to Ms. Badgley for making it all possible.
