Doing a night swim is one of the highlights of our trips to Palm Springs. The term ‘night swim’ is used very loosely as the swimming usually starts around 7 and ends before 9 because many of the kids have early bed times. (Not mine anymore but they started out that way!)
Ellie and Jill both happened to pick vintage swimsuits this year. They insisted that we have a little photoshoot and who was I to complain? They even help with the post processing. They can be so pushy these days. Ha!
This year to up the fun factor Joelle and I both brought (separately, but great minds think alike) glowsticks for fun in the pool. The kids LOVED it and I had a bit of fun slowing down my shutter and photographing some of the acrobatics in the pool.
Evenings in Palm Springs are magical. Or at least the light is. The golf course my parents’ house is on is in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains. The kids LOVE to run down the fairway and play in the sand traps when all the golfers are done. It’s like the best backyard ever! The nice thing is that by the time the last golfer is done the sun is just going behind the mountains and the light is soft and lovely.
That’s why we like to do our family pictures there every year. This year was a tougher year than normal because it was SUPER windy for all but the last two days of our stay. (Only at night though so that was nice.) Sure we could have gotten a whole bunch of pictures like this one below but we decided to wait it out.
By waiting we got better weather conditions but much worse skin conditions. There is something about Palm Springs that makes all of the kids (Joelle’s and mine) break out in eczema…almost instantly. Poor things! So, in these portraits, if the kids look scaly or uncomfortable they are. Their skin is just one more swim away from cracking and peeling off their bodies! (Hence the look on Kate’s face in most of these pictures.)
And one more that we’ve never tried before. The sisters and the grandkids!
Now that the laundry is done and we are back to our regular schedules it seems like Palm Springs was eons ago. Good thing we still have our playlist so we can turn up the stereo and the heat and pretend we are still there!
