I have not done any updates on Ellie since she left for college but I wanted to give her a blog post so we can have it for our book. She is doing GREAT!
The key to finding your people is to put yourself out there as soon as possible. This is not easy for an introvert but Ellie had a plan for her freshman year and she is executing it flawlessly. Her first step was to join the Honors college. Not only does this give her a place to live with like minded people, but they assign all members to houses (think Harry Potter) for social activities. Oh, and the honors students get to register a month before all the other students. Winning!
Next Ellie wanted to join a sorority. This was the hardest thing she did. Sorority rush is not for the faint of heart but she worked her way through and was invited to join Alpha Omicron Pi. Her pledge class is HUGE (70 girls) so there are lots of chances to get to know more girls. If you ask Ellie there is way too much pink involved in this sorority but the rest is fun.
The BEST thing she did this fall was to join The Corral. The Corral is the Boise State booster club. They have weekly meetings where they make signs and plan what sports events they will be attending. Ellie has met all sorts of people through The Corral and has thoroughly enjoyed having rabid fans to cheer with at the football games. Here she is on the Smurf Turf after they won the Mountain West Championship…
She got many visitors this fall! We didn’t mean to have so many visits but I think it worked out so well. The first visit was with Mr. Fun. He arrived for Family weekend ready to help with homecoming floats, bowling with the sorority and a great football game. Ellie was even able to get him into the special Corral area for the game so he REALLY got to see what their spirit section was like. He was more than impressed!
The next visit was with ME! I came just for fun because it had been two months and I needed to lay my eyes and my hands on my girl. We had a fun two days shopping (getting ready for her sorority formal), had yummy meals and just enjoyed being together. I loved every minute!
The last visit was when Kate and Jill went to visit for a Sister Weekend. They had a great time riding bikes, visiting the campus, more yummy food, riding scooters, going to the artist market. It sounded like a great time. We had to twist some arms but we finally got some pictures out of these three knuckleheads…
Here is a picture of Ellie and her roommate Maddie ready for her sorority formal. Love that they made such an effort to get good pictures. I’ve taught her well!
It was fun having Ellie home for Thanksgiving but it was a whirlwind. Looking forward to Christmas where we can slow down a bit. So proud of this kid!
