Abby is one of my school portraits kids. (I think of them all as MY kids!) I started taking pictures at her school when she was in about 3rd grade so I got to see her only a few years before she moved on to her next scholastic adventure. When I take pictures of my school kids I always ask them for stories about their summer or families in order to elicit a smile. Abby was ALWAYS and easy kid to get natural smiles from. I’m so happy to see that hasn’t changed!
It was lovely to spend an evening with her hearing about her plans for her future. An east coast school to study math or engineering perhaps? I also asked her if she was into any sports. She humbly said she MIGHT think about playing soccer in college if the opportunity is right. (Reading between the lines here but given her personality I’m thinking she is a STUD soccer player who just doesn’t like to toot her own horn.). I’m not sure why I pressed further but I asked if she played any other sports. Um….YES! In addition to soccer this girl also plays basketball, swims on the swimteam, and runs track and field. Holy cow she’s well rounded! And lest you think she is just an athlete she spent more time talking about her favorite volunteer activity than anything else!
Abby has been matched with a special needs girl who has down syndrome and autism. She talked about how hard it was for this girl and her family last year when everything shut down and they all had to stay away from eachother. She loves to meet up with her buddy at the mall to hang out or take her swimming because that is one of her buddy’s favorite activities. You could just see Abby’s face light up as she talked about her buddy. Amazing!
Here are my favorite pictures of Miss Abby…
And a few more of her family because they came for pictures too. Even her dog Ed got to jump in a few!
