I know I’ve referenced these Pemco commercials before but this one is just appropriate. Jill suggested this blog post title when she was that picture above and that just cracked me up. I love seeing the emerging senses of humor in my kids!
I was all prepared to call our first hike of the year a FAIL. I’m such a rookie that I didn’t realize that this hike, which turns into a natural water slide in August, would actually have snow on the trail at the end of June. Granted it was at an elevation of 2300 ft, but I clearly didn’t factor in seeing any of the wet stuff or I might have suggested that Kate and Jill wear shoes instead of sandals!
We started out by finding a patch of snow way off the path and the girls thought it would be funny to take a picture with it so they climbed over logs to get to it.
Little did we know that we would have to hike through the snow for at least 1/3 of our hike! At one point I must have been slightly off the beaten path because my foot went through the top crust of snow and I ended up with snow up to the top of my thigh. Gulp!
The destination was just beautiful, though, and made it totally worth it. The river was running quite high so we couldn’t cross, but the girls had a great time throwing in rocks and the dog loved his swim. We were forced to leave our lovely spot when we realized that Coop was so cold that he couldn’t stop shivering. My theory was that once he started running on the trail he would warm right up. It worked, but of course he had to stop and roll in the snow. He just has no impulse control!
One of the best parts of the hike was the post hike celebration. We had so much fun trying to get shots of the chest bumps and booty bumps.
Even though I thought the girls were going to consider this hike a fail because it turned out that the best part, according to them, WAS the snow. Go figure. If they thought this was fun wait until we hike up to the ice caves!
