Swimming was the main focus of our trip. All three girls are such great swimmers that I liked this activity. It meant that I could sit on a lounge chair under an umbrella sipping a nice cool drink while they were happily occupied. (For you photographer types let me tell you the happy coincidence that really MADE that picture above. I wanted to shoot the girls from below so I had the girls on the lounge chairs and I laid a towel on the hot concrete so I wouldn’t burn my tushy. The towel was white and made the perfect reflector/fill light. So I made the sacrifice and burned my buns for a good picture. Totally worth it!)
Of course, kids cannot be entertained by water alone. We fit in a bit of shopping, a movie with Grampy, some shopping with Nana and a fun trip to the Children’s Museum. If you ever find yourself in Palm Springs you’ve got to check this place out! They have all sorts of neat exhibits. A physics exhibit where the kids pull themselves up a pole with a rope. A VW bug in the middle of museum that is there for kids to paint. A dress up section with all sorts of fancy clothes. A real police motorcycle for climbing on. And our favorite are the pretend pizza shop and grocery store. Those always take up the bulk of our time. My girls LOVE to pretend!
One of the other highlights of our trip were the many visits to the frozen yogurt shop with Grampy. This place opened up about a month ago and my Dad had been doing some advance reconnaissance missions to make sure it wasn’t poison. It wasn’t. The fun thing about this shop is it was serve yourself. There were 8 different flavor choices and at least 20 different toppings. Since you pay by the ounce the owners were happy to see the girls piling on the gummy worms and peanut butter cups. In the six days we were in Palm Springs my Dad took the girls there three times. They almost named a table after them!
There was one other main activity the girls really enjoyed but you will have to stay tuned until tomorrow. How’s that for a tease?
