It feels like it has been soccer soccer soccer around here lately. Probably because Allen has been coaching both Ellie and Kate’s teams this season so there is soccer on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and for awhile there, Sunday!
Ellie’s team has really blossomed this year. Instead of mob ball they are really thinking strategy and setting up plays. It’s been fun to watch all of the girls come into their own and really start to shine.
Kate has been having a great time on Friday nights (Sunday games have stopped for her now). Her age group plays micro soccer which is just one night a week on small fields with small teams. BUT that doesn’t mean it’s a small number of kids. On two regulation sized fields they have 12 micro fields set up so that means there are at least 80 players raring to go. On Friday night they have a five o’clock session, a six o’clock session, and a seven o’clock session. That’s a lot of kids!
The coaches are on the field with their players referreeing and coaching while the kids play the games. I just love watching Mr. Fun out there encouraging all the girls (he cheers for both teams) with high fives, pep talks and, when necessary, he brings out the Be Aggressive dance. This always make the big and small girls (Ellie and Kate’s teams) crack up. It is my goal to video tape this dance and share it with you all. Internet, this is going to be a treat!
