Yes, we had a plan. It was a solid plan, too. But sometimes in life you just have to be FLEXible, right? Our plan for buying a Ford Flex got bumped up about six months, and not because Allen was sick of hearing me slip it into conversation everyday. (See the previous sentence for an example.) Let’s just say, that because of this purchase there are two families with bigger and better cars and a dealership with an empty parking spot. Everybody is happy! (Even Mr. Fun has to admit that we got a screamin’ deal and this is an awesome car!)
You should have seen the girls’ reaction to the car. Actually we didn’t see it, we heard it. Since I didn’t leave to buy the car until 8:30 pm the girls had no idea I was even gone. The next morning I sent them down to the garage to get some groceries out of the car that I had ‘forgotten’ the day before. We could hear them all the way downstairs in the garage jumping up and down and screaming in excitement. They were also impressed with his name. Spike. The dealership insisted that they needed a nickname for the car for their records so I picked Spike in deference to all of his black and chrome shininess.
What I am hearing is that it isn’t real unless it makes my blog. I’ve had a couple of friends email me to find out if I’d truly gotten a new car. It couldn’t possibly be true since they hadn’t read it on my blog. Spike is so monumental, people, that I wanted to make sure I did him justice. I wasn’t going to just take a quick snapshot and throw it up on the blog. That was not nearly grand enough.
So, I called my excellent photographer friend, Judith, and asked if she would help me photograph Spike. Thank heavens for creative friends who are willing to have playdates with me! It would have been much nicer if it hadn’t been raining during the whole photo shoot, but I like to think that the raindrops just add to the vintage flair. I was going to keep these pictures a secret from Mr. Fun and give him one or two of them for Father’s Day. But since they turned out so well I just couldn’t wait. (And honestly, he isn’t MY father!) Here are my favorites…
