Many years ago I photographed a family who wanted to have their dog in the pictures with their toddler. They kept saying ‘Is the dog smiling?’ while their toddler was having a complete meltdown. That made me gun shy for many years about including family pets in family portraits but I eventually changed my tune because pets are such a BIG part of families. I know mine are!
When Gwen asked if we could take a few pictures with Gus I was happy to include him. We didn’t have any treats with us but one of my favorite pet tricks is to suddenly make a high pitched squeal, just when I am ready to take the shot. With Gus this trick worked to perfection. Is the dog smiling? Yes…yes he is!
It was fun to meet this family for a quick family session and then go off with Annika and her team to take her senior pictures. Annika didn’t want to have her senior pictures taken in all the same locations that her classmates were going to so she met me in Suncadia for a lovely evening shoot. Annika was not afraid of a little elk poop or of climbing up on a hay wagon which was perfect for this beautiful rural location.
