Sending out a Husky holiday card is not surprising. We’ve done it every year for the last 15 years. What is most surprising this year is the response we’ve gotten. Within two days of sending the card out (the day before Thanksgiving of course) we started getting all sorts of texts, Facebook messages and emails. Holy cow!
We knew our subject matter was sacred ground and that we had better not ‘cheese’ it so we were more than a little nervous about tackling this idea. But Don James was a big part of our college experience and we wanted to honor his memory and passing. What better idea than to replicate one of the most iconic posters from our time in college? Eek!
Well the devil is in the details so we made sure we got those as close as possible. We borrowed a helmet and some reel to reel film (Who has that anymore? My parents do!). We pulled out our National Championship paraphernalia, dressed everybody in gangster (not gangsta) style and we were good to go. Then I made Mr. Fun come home for lunch one day (new definition for a quickie?) and we set it all up. I took 150 shots to make sure I got just the right one, but wouldn’t you know that it was the first image that was the winner.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive and we’ve even brought some folks to tears. Know what brings me to tears? The thought of having to top this next year!
Merry Christmas all!
