I’ve reached the end of my shooting year. I shot 85 wonderful families in 2009. Every year it feels like a sprint to the end and this year I chose not to shoot any client pictures in December. December is just for finishing up orders to make sure everybody gets their goodies in time for the holidays.
It also lets me get into the proper holiday spirit with my family. Years ago the pastor of my church encouraged us to try to scale back our activities and remember what this season is all about. Okay, I’m a slow learner, but this year I’m trying to walk the walk. “I know it’s last minute, but can you shoot holiday photos of my family this week?” So sorry. (Really, I’m not even being sarcastic here!) “Can your girls join our choir with 8 performances in December?” Nope. “Can you get together for a holiday drink?” Only after the kids are in bed.
It’s not that we aren’t doing anything this month. We are taking friends on an annual Tree Hunt, we are hosting about 75 people for our holiday party, we are seeing santa with our cousins, we are seeing our favorite a capella band in concert. That’s in addition to all of the family holiday celebrations.
So, if you are seeing less blog posts this month it’s because I am hunkering down under the Christmas tree with my kiddos reading stories, or playing games or baking cookies (help my hips!) and trying to wrap our arms, quietly and peacefully, around this season.
Merry Christmas!
