These are some good buddies and three of them have birthdays in March. That means tons of parties with these same girls all month long. Fun!
This year Kate wanted a Minecraft themed party. Since I don’t play this game on my own I had to turn to Pinterest to get some ideas. We knew we needed some cool table/decorations, a fun cake and an awesome scavenger hunt. In fact, we were informed by the birthday girl that expectations were running high for this scavenger hunt because Mr. Fun and done such a good one last year the girls could talk of nothing else. Talk about pressure!
Pinterest had a ton of good ideas and printables and here is what I came up with. A grass tablecloth for the table and Creeper glasses made from electrical tape. (Green Powerade helped complete the glass!) We pulled together all of the movie snacks into the decorations too. Good thing we were able to incorporate Kate’s favorite candies. (Rolos and Swedish fish.)
I originally though it would be fun to have cows (burgers), pigs (hot dogs) and chicken (nuggets) since they all play key parts in Minecraft but two of the four girls were vegetarians so that would not do. Instead we did square shaped cheese pizza. Good enough!
The cake did not seem like it was going to come together. The brownies represented the dirt blocks, the rice crispy treats were sand blocks and the blue jello was the water blocks. I was not sure they would all stack together but they did. I still think it looked a bit goofy but all of the girls (even my olders ones) thought it was really cool. Really? Okay, no Pintrocity here!
Once the girls arrived they started out by making their treasure boxes. In Minecraft this is where you save all of your special goods. We thought this would be a good place to keep their scavenger hunt treasure and movie snacks for the movie.
After dinner we started the much anticipated scavenger hunt. It was a big hit. Mr. Fun had them running all over the house, Facetiming with the Stevie (he’s a main character) that we have in our family (my brother in law Stephen) and then tackling the big clue that Jill and Ellie made for the game. Jill and Ellie were actually gone for the party because they were doing the 30 Hour famine at church but they worked on a maze clue for the party all week. The party girls airplayed the maze on our big TV so they could all see what was happening and they could all have input about what direction they should go. It was HARD! There were multiple levels and many different directions to go.
Finally they found the clue!
After the scavenger hunt the girls had cake and then went upstairs for their jammies and movies. It was a late night but an even earlier morning. The girls just couldn’t wait to have more fun!
The smartest thing I did at this party, though, was to wait until Saturday morning to give the girls some mini recorders as parting gifts. The big recorder concert for the 4th grade is coming up next week and I thought they would really like them. They did…and played them nonstop…until I sent them outside. I apologize right now to their parents!
It was a good birthday season this year. A fun time had by all!
