Yesterday was the first day of fall. Wait, what? This month has been so busy that I haven’t had any time to catch up on the ‘here’s what we did this summer’ blog post. So here’s to catching up.
We got some cousin time. We can’t get enough of these boys! Yogurt, creek time, wigs and Fireball sung at the top of their lungs on repeat. What’s not to love?!?
Speaking of colored hair…Kate opted for blue this year. It faded pretty quickly but we really liked both versions. (And yes, I did this to my kid’s hair. Just not a parenting hill I want to die on. Tattoos on the other hand…)
We also did some hiking. Not as much as I hoped for but we still managed to get out there. This is from Rattlesnake Ridge. By the time we got to the top, with the incredible view, we were with 150 of our closest friends…packed onto a small rock face. Hmmm…I think we will pick a different hike next time!
We also had a fun Staycation day where we ventured all around the city hitting all the sights we’d been meaning to see. That included the rainbow sidewalks up on Broadway…
And canoeing around the University of Washington. (Please excuse the fuzzy picture. My phone was in a steamy ziplock bag!)
We also did some backyard camping. By we I mean the girls and their friends. They organized the whole thing. All I had to do was a bit of grocery shopping and I set up the ‘faux’ fire. That’s what you get when there is no rain and there are burn bans everywhere!
There was lots of reading happening this summer too. Kate was slow to start but read a whole 8 book series in August. Ellie was a reading machine but I didn’t manage to get any pictures of her doing it. She was reading so much that it was more unusual to see her NOT reading!
Finally the girls had some fun sleepovers with their grandparents. Camp DDD included one new character (Hi Wade!) and the girls got to sleep at Nana’s after they went school shopping with her. Selfies with grandparents are the best!
Summer started out pretty rough but we rallied and ended with a lot of fun. On to fall!
