Allen and I have been talking about intalling internet parental controls for awhile. Ellie’s new purchase was really the kick in the pants we needed to get moving. I did a lot of research and ended up with OpenDNS. They’ve gotten great reviews and the controls are on our wireless router so all devices, and we have a lot of them, on our network are covered. I do have to admit that I had some issues with testing this new system. Lets just say that I have certain images burned into my brain and they made me want to wash out my eyes AND my mouth. Yikes! I certainly took one for the team there!
I told the girls that the new parental controls I’d installed allow me to see their activity with their iTouches. I wasn’t lying there, I CAN see where they are going on the internet. I just stretched the truth a bit by saying that I can tell if they are playing games in their beds. (They are not allowed to play games at bedtime, they can just listen to music or stories.) This intrigued Ellie. The first morning she came down for breakfast, looks me in the eye and says ‘So, what did I do on my Touch last night?’ Ack! I quickly responded ‘Why, is there a problem? I only plan to look at those reports if there is a problem.’ I waited a beat before I asked her ‘Are you testing me?’ Ellie giggled and with a sparkle in her eye she said ‘Yes!’
I am in so much trouble when she becomes a teenager!
