I have known Leigh for at least 13 years. (Before either of us had any kids!) She is actually the closest thing I have to a business partner. Leigh is the one who pushed me to get my first website and she helped design it. She also helped design my first business cards and has written much of the text I use for promotions. Most importantly, she was the first one to really get the word out there (more than 10 years ago) about my photography. I’ve photographed her kids since they were just three months old. (Imagine me, nine months pregnant, crawling around on the floor wrangling newborn twins. Then again, maybe you shouldn’t imagine that…)
So with all this history why did it take me so long to actually photograph her whole family? I’ve done plenty of pictures of the kids but never of Leigh and Roger with them. If you ask Leigh, like most Mom’s, she would say it’s because she wanted to lose some weight, or wanted to get her hair done differently or she didn’t have the right outfit. Sound familiar ladies? It does to ME because when I was preparing for MY family pictures last month I thought of ALL these things. The thing is, though, your kids don’t think any of these things. They love us just the way we are and the reality is that life is short. (I won’t go into any morbid details, let your mind wander where it may.) And let’s face it. We are never going to be as young as we are today. Honestly, I’ve never heard any body say ‘I’m waiting until I look a bit older.’ as an excuse for delaying pictures.
