Last winter I was chatting with my neighbor about legos. (Don’t judge…we moved on to better subjects quickly!) Robert said that when his kids were done with legos he was going to make a lamp with them. Just for fun. His youngest son is just getting into legos now (he’s 5) so Robert’s got a lot of lego time ahead of him. I, on the other hand, do not.
In anticipation of new carpet the girls had to do a lot of cleaning and sorting and moving. One of the things that became apparent was that legos may be a thing of the past. Kate wasn’t quite ready to let them all go (especially all of the structures they spent so much time building) but she did green light a big box for our nephews. That’s a big step!
Soon after the carpet was installed we had a boring rainy afternoon so I suggested the girls design and build a lamp. I bought a lamp kit at the hardware store and put the girls to work. It only took a day for them to come up with the design and execute it. It even passed their drop test. (Apparently they like to drop their creations to see how sturdy they are.) It was harder to secure the part that hold the bulb and shade but we did it and it looks great. Please note the door at the back of the lamp for the cord to escape. They are especially proud of that!
It will look great in our newly designed TV room. Did you see that? The playroom just morphed into a tv room just like that. Just like my kids are turning from kids into teens. Just like that…
