Three years ago I photographed TJ and Justin when Justin was just a baby. These guys are from Cincinnati so I don’t see them very often. When they came back a few weeks ago they brought their new sister Emme along. When they first arrived I warmed them up a bit by playing the name game. This is me talking to TJ:
ME: So your name is Fred, right?
TJ: (Suspiciously) Nnnooo.
ME: It’s not? I could have sworn your name was Fred. And that is your brother George, right?
JUSTIN: NO! My name is Justin!
TJ: (Smiling now) And I’m TJ.
ME: Oooooh! Right. So that is your sister Betty, right?
TJ and JUSTIN: (Giggles) NOOOOO!
That’s one of the best way to warm kids up. Call them by the wrong names (really wrong, not just mixing up siblings) and it gets them engaged right away.
Look at how well coordinated these outfits are? All the way down to Emme’s hair clip and Jackie’s (Mom) bracelet. I so appreciate how much thought went into coordinating all of this for five people. These kids were such great listeners and it was a pleasure to meet their new (ish) little sister!
Here are my favorites…
I should probably mention that the reason these guys were in town is not really for me, but to visit family. Here are the cousins as we would like to imagine that they always are:
And this is probably a more accurate depiction!
