School shopping for Ellie took some prep work this year. There were a bunch of ‘gently used’ bags of clothes (or hand me downs) in her closet and Jill’s closet and it had been awhile since I’d looked through them. Holy moly they ganged up on me! Somehow the bags have multiplied I’m sure.
I found a ton of stuff that Jill wore in 5th grade that would fit Ellie but there was pretty much no way she would be caught dead wearing that in middle school. There was also some stuff from Jill’s middle school days that DID fit Ellie. Ellie is in that in between stage where she can wear the XL in the kids department and the XS in the adult department.
So what I am saying is this. Not only did Ellie have all the big items she needed (skirts, jeans, sweaters, converse), but Kate was the happy recipient of a bunch of clothes that leap frogged over Ellie. Jeans, shirts, sweatshirts…Kate loved all the stuff that Jill wore in 5th grade AND it fit her. Kate already has so much clothes I am cringing because we haven’t even gone through the bags and boxes I have waiting for HER!
Suffice it to say we didn’t get much for Ellie. We got the basics like camis and undies and PE shoes that don’t get handed down and…there were a few clearance items that may have slipped into our bags too just for fun.
While Ellie’s taste in clothes is wide and varied, her palate is not. I am happy to report that, for the first time since we’ve been doing school shopping nights, Ellie did not pick McDonalds for her dinner. She picked 5 Guys and we shared a whole large fry between us. Woot woot!
Next year at school Ellie is most worried about teachers. She named a few of Jill’s 8th grade teachers that she was frightened of but I assured her that they don’t teach 7th grade so she was good to go. She was still worried. Ellie is most looking forward to her locker. Yup, you read that right. She is excited to have one, to decorate one, to relearn the combination.
I know for certain that she is also excited to see her friends again. For her special treat she picked out best friend necklaces. Since she has a little posse instead of just one bestie she bought two sets.
It’s going to be a good year for this kid.
