Last weekend had had the pleasure of having Little Man Jack (my nephew) stay the night with us. We had such a great time with him! I carried my camera around with me hoping to capture all of our fun. I think I did okay with the snapshots but I’d had high hopes for getting some portraits and that was so silly of me. At 15 months he wants nothing to do with sitting still and saying cheese.
Although the smarty pants is good at saying all sorts of things. Within a half hour of arriving he switched from calling my dog, Cooper, ‘Ditty’ (his word for Kitty) to ‘Booper’ and he said it ALOT as he chased Cooper all over the house. (I have no pictures of this because Cooper was smart enough to make sure Jack never got very close!)
We had a great time taking Jack to the park and playing with him on the toys. He loved the thrill of having Allen push him on the swing. (‘More! More!)
The slide was also great fun but I have no pictures of that because I was in the catcher’s position. All three girls wanted a chance to go down the slide with him. All went well until Kate took her turn. Her sticky sandals caught on the slide as she was going down causing her to launch Jack into the air and into my lucky waiting arms. Jack’s take on the incident? ‘More! More!’
For dinner I served Jack all sorts of yummy bits. Cheese, avocado (‘dado’) and peaches but by far the big hit was the pancakes that the girls were eating. As soon as those hit his plate he ignored all else.
After dinner we headed out for and ice cream treat. What happens at Auntie’s house stays at Auntie’s house! (Unless she puts it on her blog.) We didn’t know if Jack preferred vanilla or chocolate so we got him a bit of both. Found out he’s not picky at all. In the interest of saving us some awful diapers we did NOT let him eat the whole thing! He did get a bit bent out of shape when Allen got a lick of Kate’s ice cream but he had plenty of his own!
Jack was so easy to put to bed. All it took was a bit of milk and some stories and he was ready to go.
BUT he was a little harder to keep there. He started chatting in his room at 4:30 in the morning. Whoa! I’d forgotten all about THAT fun. At least he stayed there chatting on and off until about 5:50. Then we took ‘Booper’ for a nice early morning walk. Yes, folks. It IS light out at that time!
After church we had a bit of lunch and rolled into a quick nap before Joelle and Stephen came to steal him from us. This is when the best part of the weekend happened for me. There is nothing better than having a baby sleep on you. Any stress you were trying to hold onto automatically melts away and of course it’s the perfect excuse to have a nap of your own too. Jack woke up 45 minutes after he fell asleep so I brought him down for some milk and a little snuggle on the couch. Towards the end of his bottle he said ‘Nigh Nigh? Yes?’ and before I could get up to put him in his crib he fell asleep again. That is one thing I totally missed when my kiddos grew too big for naps so it was nice to experience that little slice of heaven again.
Almost makes me want to have another. Except for the 4:30 am part, and the poopy diaper part…
