Last year we talked our girls into filling out brackets just to make it more fun for them when we watch basketball non-stop during March Madness. It was a successful experiment in that there was little complaining and even some interest in the outcome of the games.
This year we did the same thing but we’ve taken it even a bit farther. We added the element of smack talk. I picked a ton of upsets this year (just for fun) and did REALLY well on the first day. Mr. Fun? Not so much. So I gleefully spent the day pointing out all of my wins and how I was in third place while he was in 24th. Woot!
During the Arkansas/Wolford game I was texting Mr. Fun. (I was rooting for Wolford to get the upset win…Ellie was not.)
Apparently he was happy to share my smack talking with my favorite middle daughter so then we had to send a few love notes…
Of course the next day my bracket went into a severe free fall because there were no upsets until the LAST game. Oh well, best laid plans. My team (Villanova) is out and so is Ellie’s but we are still earning points so we will take this duel to the very end.
The important thing, though, is that I beat Mr. Fun, right? Well he pulled ahead of me late on Sunday. I only had three good days of bragging. Ugh! The good news was that he passed me while we were at the arena watching two round two games and our seats were awesome!
My only hope is to root fervently for all the teams he did NOT pick and hope I get a few more upsets so I can beat him in the end. (Love you dear!)
