Last weekend we redecorated Kate’s room so it matched the big girl that she is becoming. A few months ago she commented that she wanted Bright & Happy in her room because that is what she was. So true!
I asked if she wanted to have any input but she said she wanted to be surprised. I couldn’t decide if she couldn’t be bothered to sit and look at sheets with me or if she wanted the Big Reveal. I actually think it is the reveal. We watch a fair bit of HGTV around here and you all know the reveal is the best part!
First off I am going to show you the before pictures. I can’t believe I am actually putting these out on the internet. Ugh! But- this is how this kid lives. Messy! (And this is after a major clean five days before.) By this point some of the wall decorations had been pulled down in anticipation of the big change, but this is pretty true to form.
So I’ve been planning this room for a few months. One major consideration was that the walls needed to stay light pink but that Kate doesn’t really like pink anymore so I needed to somehow make that disappear. I started with sheets from Pottery Barn Kids. That was the room’s one big splurge. Then I filled in with frames and accessories from Target and Ikea or repurposed from Kate’s walls. (I spray painted all sorts of things!)
I knew I wanted to do a collage on the walls so I turned to Pinterest to find Bright & Happy for the walls. I found a ton of free printables that I found inspiring and I’m hoping it will be inspired Kate too!
We sent the girls off to stay with my Mom for the night and Allen and I worked our booty’s off for 10 hours (and that is after I did most of the spray painting earlier in the week) cleaning, rearranging, painting dressers and designing. I am so pleased with how it turned out!
So here is the big reveal. Was it worth the wait?
She thought so!
