Such a fun word to say and such a fun thing to make. As happens every year, I decided I needed to make something new the day before our annual holiday party. Isn’t that just the way? All the undone projects get finished up before you open your house to the masses. Then, after the party you can sit back and enjoy.
I didn’t find this on Pinterest, but I did see something similar in my travels on the internet. It was super easy to make. I used left over burlap (left over from the project below), left over felt (from a flower project I’ll share soon) some awesome star ribbon and a bit of red paint (not even fabric paint). I simply printed out large letters (font size 300) in a font I like an cut them out of the regular paper with an exacto knife. Then I cut triangles out in the size I wanted for the burlap. I cut the burlap out using those triangles as a pattern and then I cut the felt out (with pinking shears) slightly larger. I then used the cut out letters as stencils to paint the letters on the burlap. Because burlap is so bumpy and uneven it actually looks better if the letters aren’t perfectly painted. This is good news for me because I have few patience and like immediate gratification. If I have to take too long being precise the project doesn’t get done!
After the letters were dry, I used embroidery floss to quickly stitch the burlap to the felt. Finally I folded the 1.5 inch star ribbon around the triangles and zig zag stitched the whole thing together. Et voila! Merry Bunting!
I can’t remember if I’ve shared my other burlap projects with you. By this time in the year I’ve pretty much lost my mind so hang in there with me!
Because I’m crazy, smack dab in the middle of my busy season I decided that I needed to make some new pillows for my living room. I scoured Pinterest and found some great examples. Here are my interpretations!
The red pillow and the white pillow with the buttons are simply $7 covers from Ikea that I fancied up with buttons and felt. The other pillows are burlap covers that I quickly stitched together. Similar to the merry technique above, I cut out my anniversary numbers from regular paper and used those stencils to paint the numbers on the pillow. The @ symbol was made out of scrap felt and I LOVE how it turned out. Pretty sure that one is my favorite.
Stay tuned…my creative juices have been flowing so I’ll have more to share in the next posts.
