This year we had two challenges on our trip. The first was a picture challenge. While Allen was golfing the girls and I challenged ourselves to shoot our morning without taking the ‘obvious’ picture. What I meant by that was I didn’t want a pull back picture of the park. I wanted us all to take pictures that would tell a story in small bites. For example, while we fortified ourselves with Starbucks before our picture walk, Kate entertained us with her favorite new book.
Then we headed out to a couple of different parks. A lot of the pictures from the girls’ videos came from this picture walk. We found flowers and fountains and fun.
Then, because we were on a picture mission, we drove back to our favorite yogurt joint to shoot this:
Oh yeah? No photos? And because we were feeling mutinous we ended our morning with some Five Guys fries.
Challenge number two had nothing to do with pictures at all. But we did take some because we needed some evidence. On our last day we challenged ourselves to swim in 16 different pools. (Okay, I was just there to photograph it all. I swam in only two.) The development that my parents have a house in has MANY MANY pools and even hitting 16 pools barely scratched the surface.
The only rule was that you had to completely dunk your head underwater for it to count. The crew faced many hurdles including unheated pools, plant debris and one cranky pool guy, but they persevered and finished their challenge in less than two hours. Next year they are already hoping for 20!
