My kids have led a sheltered, deprived life. They have only seen fireworks on TV and not usually when they are going off live. (We did wake them up last year to watch the 4th of July fireworks from our front deck but they were too tired to stay longer than three minutes.)
This year our neighbors helped to educate our kids. They bought a lovely array of incendiary devices. From the basic sparkler all the way up to the grand finaly device called Starry Sky. That was two hours of fun with fire! (Notice the big match Jill is dancing with above.)
We started the kids off easy with some snakes. They thought they were interesting until they saw the ground bloom flowers. Oooh, spining and flames. Cool!
This is the reaction the kids had the first time they saw a ‘Tank’ fire…
Then the Dads decided to stage a war with two Tanks facing each other and a couple of smoke bombs in the middle. Boys and their toys.
This is the kids firing party bombs with no matches…
This is the happy dance we saw after lighting ‘Purple Rain’. That was a favorite!
This is Buster, the youngest kid of the bunch. He was perfectly content to sit in his stroller and give a quiet ‘Whoa!’ every so often.
As is typical in Seattle, it started to rain partway through our extravaganza so we got an iconic fireworks watching shot…
Finally we had some fun with sparklers. I will have to improve my photographic technique, but it was fun to play with…
