Sometimes when I listen to my heart people look at me like I am nutty. As I was driving over to photograph Georgia and her family my heart told me to take the picture above. Miss Georgia had a tumor in her knee that was removed last fall. My thought was to show this little spot in a positive light. In a happy way. I’m so glad Allison didn’t say no. I love how this shot turned out. (And it also highlights Allison’s excellent skills at drawing hearts!)
Ever since the tumor was discovered Georgia and her family has been on a tough journey. All through it Allison has been writing an amazing blog. It is so honest. I can only hope to be half the advocate for my kids if they ever, God forbid, find themselves in a similar situation. When I first heard about Georgia (through a client) my heart told me to email them and offer a photo session. To make sure they had family pictures they could treasure.
The good news is that Miss Georgia is 100 days post bone marrow transplant. That is HUGE! She is doing so well and she is such a happy, smiley, sweet little girl. Allison and Brian are still trying to figure out what they can and can’t do with Georgia but grass has been given the OK by her doctors so I got to see her first encounter with this wet, tickly, green stuff and it was such a pleasure.
The other way I listened to my heart was by signing up to be a Soulumination photographer. This fantastic organization provides professional photographs, free of charge, to families and kids facing life threatening illnesses. This family did have a Souluminations session back in November, but this was a session I offered to Allison and Brian before I even signed up. You will never see Souluminations sessions on my blog because of privacy and federal regulations.
