The Christmas tree is the perfect symbol of the holiday. Why do we celebrate by hanging baubles on dead wood? I have no idea but we just go with it!
I really don’t enjoy decorating our big tree. I never have, but I do enjoy looking at it so I am very thankful that my kids like this task. This year my girls helped my Mother-In-Law, Wanda, decorate her tree over Thanksgiving weekend. Wanda is the ultimate decorator. She always uses a theme and has boxes of different ornaments and doo dads to complement the theme she chooses. The idea that a tree could be decorated intentionally and much like a room totally blew Ellie and Jill’s minds.
With that in mind they decided that we should do the same thing for our tree. Kate was not so impressed. She is more of a traditionalist and she wanted to use all of our favorite ornaments. The ornaments that have gone on our tree every year and that mark the passage of time in the life of our family.
Amazingly there really wasn’t any fighting about how to handle this disagreement. The just decided to split the tree in half. One side is the crazy traditional side and the other side is the fancy red and white side. Both did a fantastic job and I love our Yin Yang tree.
This is the first year we are hosting the holidays so I’m sure I am in for some fun and for some crazy. I wish you some new, some tradition, and some crazy for your holiday. Merry Christmas!
