I won’t go into details for fear of embarrassing dear daughter number two, but getting ears pierced in our house is a rite of passage. A celebration, if you will. A welcome into the ‘big girls’ club.
I wasn’t sure she would even do it. This is the kid who is deathly afraid of getting shots at the doctor. I knew I was going to have to spring the idea on her or she would lose sleep over the whole process. Last weekend I surprised Ellie with the idea after she woke up. I wasn’t sure she would take me up on it but we quickly dressed and headed out before she could change her mind.
Miss Ellie tends to be the strong silent type but I found the best way to turn her into a Chatty Cathy. Make her nervous. Wow! That kid chatted my ear off the whole way there.
Our choices of practitioners was limited on a Sunday so we ended up at Claire’s. We could not have had a better experience. I was super impressed with how clean and calm the whole process was. There were lots of choices (the one below was not one of them thank you very much) for studs and we appreciated how Jessica explained every step as she did them.
Ellie was very nervous but she turned down the offer of my hand to squeeze which freed me up to take pictures (and made me a little sad because that means she is growing up). I was really proud of her because I know how much courage it took for her to come, never mind the fact she help back the tears.
We went for a celebratory lunch afterward and I took full advantage of Ellie’s continued chattiness. I got a chance to ask a burning question…’So Ellie, who is the most embarrassing mom in your group of friends?’ I knew that that is the sort of question that if you have to ask it is probably you! When I asked if it was me she seemed shocked. ‘No way!’ In fact, she went through the list of her friend’s moms and couldn’t come up with an embarrassing one in the bunch. Awesome! I will be sure to check back with her when she hits High School and see if she still feels the same!
This is the fun sign that welcomed us home. I love that her sisters are just as excited as excited for her new ears as she is.
Now Ellie has seven weeks to figure out what her next pair of earrings will be. Just in time for her birthday in fact. I’m thinking those excited sisters will be making some fun choices!
