Last week Allen and I took the week off from work and took the girls on a Staycation. We don’t have any family out of town so we have never had an excuse to tour around our own backyard. We had so much fun planning all the places we would visit. We compiled a long list of attractions and then tried to fit them into our week. In actuality, though, we only had three days to plan for since we built Henry’s birth day into the week and on Friday we all took off for different locales.
On day one we decided to visit Pike Place Market. We started the day by parking at Pioneer Square. Not only for the cultural experience that IS the oldest part of the city, but it allowed the fun of taking public transportation through the city. Our poor, sheltered children walk to school so riding the bus is always a treasure for them. The fact that we got to take the bus tunnel on the way back was just the cherry on top!We had a great time wandering through the market munching on treats from our favorite bakery, watching the street singers and seeing the vendors fling salmon through the air. Each girl got to pick one healthy treat to take home. I loved watching the girls make their choices. Jill picked nectarines that could feed a family of seven (each), Ellie picked champagne grapes (fits with her champagne taste), and Kate was completely focused, begging for raspberries all the way through the market. (We bought hers last because of the mush factor.)
Even Allen got in on the treats by buying himself a bunch of multicolored carrots that came straight out of the earth. Some were white (they reminded me of the book, Bunicula), some were red and some were orange. All were yummy!
Finally I will share one more funny picture. I read tons of photographer blogs and I’ve always marvelled at how some of them can take their clients to ‘urban’ (disgusting alley, really) settings. The pictures look great, but I’m always thinking in the back of my head ‘I would never sit my baby in the middle of that alley. Who KNOWS what yuck has been in that very spot!’ Yes, I have a close relationship with my hand sanitizer. So here is my attempt at urban.
Tune in tomorrow to our adventures on days 2 and 3 of our staycation…
