When Katrina first arrived she warned me that her boys were wearing pants and NOT happy about it. ‘What do they normally like to wear?’ The answer was shorts, of course, but my girl addled brain was really worried that she was going to say ‘Dresses’. When I joked about that out loud, Dad Jared picked up the joke and repeated it for the boys thinking that it might improve their moods and make them crack up. ‘Did you hear that Evan? Michelle thought you liked to wear dresses!’ Instead of bringing out a giggle it brought on tears. D’oh!
At least little brother Cole didn’t seem to mind. Evan quickly rallied though when we joked about his dad telling stories about princesses and frogs (‘No, he tells stories about Super Heros!’) and keeping frogs and bugs in his pockets.
Of course, the thought that shorts were waiting nearby in the car was also a great way to get a smile. I wonder how he’ll feel about shorts on the first snow day? Maybe he can just wear some Super Hero tights under his shorts and he’ll be good to go!
