6 months ago Mr Fun and I went to an Escape the Room challenge. We joined four friends and we had 50 minutes to find clues, solve puzzles and escape the room we were in in. (And we did succeed by the way!) I knew this would be the perfect birthday party for Jill and her game loving friends. Alas, this crew was not successful but they sure did have fun!
A birthday party for an 18 year old is mostly a hands off kind of deal. I made the reservation and set the table. That was about it. But I sure did have fun with the things I got to do! The room Jill and her crew needed to escape had a museum heist theme so that gave us an instant, and fun, theme for the party.
Here are a few of the details..
The black and white paper on the table was my subliminal way of suggesting that they wouldn’t get away with their crime. We scattered the table with chocolate gold coins, ring pops and fake money. We also got masks for everybody (you’ve got to hide your identity!) and of course the birthday girl got the rainbow mask.
Ellie and I used some burlap to make the glass bottles into moneybags. Those glasses were filled with a custom cocktail for the occasion. The Lemon Lock Up. (7-up and lemonade)
As far as food goes, I covered some brownies in fondant and put a frame on top (they were dismantled frame ornaments I found on clearance at Michaels). Ellie then created a ‘Still Life’ for each frame out of fruit slices and Runts. We thought if they were going to steal some paintings they should eat some too!
We also made some Hot on the Trail mix, put out some 100 Grand Bars (I forgot how good they were!), and stacked up some gold bars.
We all left Jill and her friends to their own devices once the candles were blown out. From the sound of it, there was lots of laughter. No surprise there! The picture below perfectly captures how hard it is for Jill to keep a straight face when she is with these guys. Happy Birthday Kid!
