I got an email from Shelly a couple of weeks ago saying that she was going to be having her baby that very night, four weeks early, and she wanted to schedule newborn pictures with me. Two thoughts immediately ran through my head. ‘Man, this gal is really organized!’ and ‘How the heck does she know she is going to go into labor tonight, and four weeks early to boot!’
Turns out little man Drew had kept her in the hospital for two weeks with hypertension before they finally let him win and come out four weeks early. He was a happy, healthy seven and a half pounds. Can you imagine how big he would have been if he’d gone to term? Yikes!
Shelly is an amazingly calm first time mom. She let me pick up and move and squish her little guy to my hearts content. I think it had something to do with the fact that the room was 85 degrees and she was sitting in a nice overstuffed chair in the corner. Shelly told me later that she was so comfortable that she was nodding off. So THAT is how you put clients at ease. Some stuffing and some heat and we are good to go!
