Nope, that title isn’t a typo, just my new obsession. This summer I decided not to overbook the kids, and thereby myself, with camp after camp and activity after activity. Each girls gets one camp and then we are all doing vacation bible school. That leaves a lot of open time for playing with the neighbors, hanging out and getting bored. I read the best quote in an article about ‘Simple Parenting’. It said ‘Boredom is the precursor to creativity.’. I love that! So I am doing my kids all sorts of good when I let them get bored. (Either that or I will have an incredibly clean laundry room because that is always the suggestion I give when my kids tell me they are bored.)
So just when I was getting bit worried about how we would be filling our time this summer (Okay, I admit it. I get bored too if there isn’t enough activity around here!) in walked my new love. I love it so much that I am now cheating on Facebook with it. It is consuming all of my fluff time on the computer.
Essentially Pinterest is a virtual cork board. I used to cut pictures out of magazines and keep them in a file for future inspiration. The problem was I could never find that file when I needed it or I forgot I had it at all. OR, when I am at the home improvement store I forget the items I need to complete my project. Pinterest solves these problems and takes inspiration to a whole new level!
When you join you get to see the inspiration boards of EVERYBODY else on Pinterest. That means you don’t have to be an expert surfer to find cool stuff. Then you can repin them to your own board. You can have all sorts of categories of your own choosing. I particularly love DIY, kids crafts, recipes and photographic inspiration. There are a ton of folks that like to pin yard inspirations or home decorating inspirations, or clothing inspirations. Anything that inspires you can be pinned.
So back to my boring summer plans. The girls and I now have tons of crafts to keep us busy. It’s only been summer vacation for one week but I/we have already tried the ‘skirt from a Man’s T-shirt’, sidewalk chalk paint, dot pictures with pencils and a stamp pad, finger knit bracelets from t’shirt cotton, and gluten free pop tarts.
If any of you are on Pinterest let me know. I’d love to ‘follow’ you. If you AREN’T then what are you waiting for, an invitation? Oh, that’s right you actually DO need an invitation. Leave me a comment or email me and I’ll send you one so you can get inspired too!
Happy pinning!
