Last Friday we hosted Jill’s birthday party. Normally she has just one friend for a special evening because she finds it hard to balance the wants and needs of multiple guests and she doesn’t want to be stressed out on her birthday. This year she invited her best friend plus two new friends that she made through her church group. She was nervous about bringing everybody together but these girls are all so giving and accommodating that they made it easy for her to host. Allen and I really enjoyed hanging out with all these girls for the night!
I put the picture above out on Facebook and asked people to guess the theme of the party. I didn’t even come up with this surprise theme (surprise to Jill) until the day before! At our house we are into all things Apple and all four of the big girls (12 year olds) have an iTouch. So of course those brownies are each Apps. We went for an Apple theme. I decorated the table all in white and silver and then I had clear/simple plates, forks and cups. I found some cute clothes pins (at Michael’s) to use to hold the name tags I made for the girls and then they got to take them home, along with their treasure, as their parting gift.
After dinner we sent the girls off on their treasure hunt. Allen did a great job making up the clues. He had no mercy because these guys are now 12 they got some REALLY tough clues! Some of the things they had to do were Face Time (for those non-Apple folks that is like Skyping for iTouch or iPhones) with my sister for Clue #2, receive an email (it took them forever to realize the clue was ‘inside’ the Touch instead of somewhere taped to the outside) for clue #6, and text a mysterious guest (my dad) for clue #7. At the end of the hunt they all received iTunes gift cards. (Okay, the little girls got Justice cards because that made more sense!) And just for the record, we had them running all over the house and outside for the other clues. Just because we are geeks, doesn’t mean we don’t get our exercise!
We ended the evening with a movie and popcorn before they all retired upstairs for many more hours of giggling. Geeky girls that they are, they all set their iTouch alarms to wake them up in the morning. Gotta love technology!
