It’s amazing how creative you become when you really want to ‘get that shot’! Like I said in Monday’s post, the lighting was terrible when I took Kate’s birthday pictures. You can tell by the size of her irises. They are huge! Kate really wanted me to take a picture of her lying on her back. I knew the shadows would be harsh, as you can see above.
So I called in my trusty assistant and even called into action a package of client pictures I had piled up and ready for the post office. We used the back of the white envelope to bounce some extra light onto the right side of Kate’s face. (Can I point out that if I would just spring for a reflector this would have been so much easier? Amazon here I come!)
As you can see, the after, while not perfect, is so much better! Get creative kids. It can save the shot! (In the interest of full disclosure, I did add some fill light in post production too. An envelope can only do so much!)
