Usually, by this time of the year I am sighing with exhaustion because I am so glad the birthday crazies are done. This year I am sighing with contentment because the girls had such a great time at Kate’s party on Saturday. I have to admit that I cheated a bit on this party because Jill and Ellie have both, separately, had American Girl Doll Slumber parties so I did steal a few ideas from their parties. But it was new to Kate and that’s all that matters!
The hardest part of this party was finding the table setting for the dolls. I searched high and low for doll plates and cups and couldn’t find any. So I just had to start thinking out of the box. The plates were really appetizer plates, the forks I found at the party store, also in the appetizer section, the cups were votive holders and the napkins were custom created by me! I managed to find doll buckets at Michael’s and matching girl buckets at Target. Score!
The girls all seemed to enjoy having pizza (bagel bites) and cupcakes for their dolls and during the movie (they watched Molly-An American Girl, of course) the girls helped their dolls finish all the popcorn.
Of course there were a few girls and dolls who snuck some M&M’s too! (Due to faulty packaging the M&M colors didn’t match. It was ridiculous how disappointed I was!)
There was a scavenger hunt that had been first used about six years ago with Jill. This tidbit of information is important because some of the clues have become out dated. Exhibit A:
There are hundreds of numbers to call in this book. Turn to page 203 and take a look!
The answer was the phone book but we had to give a clue since nobody uses those anymore. I said ‘It’s an old fashioned book.’ The first guess was priceless. Kate’s friend Annie exclaimed ‘The Bible!’. Well, it might be old fashioned and it’s a good place to look when you need to call for help I suppose! This picture is from a neat clue that had the girls read the clue in the reflection of a mirror. The girls also figured out that they could read the clue if they held the card up to the light backwards too. Cool!
Me and my creative juices have nine months to rejuvenate for next year’s season. I’ve already got some good ideas…
